Long-lived trees are irreplaceable living assets of nature and are of particular importance because they have survived diverse climatic fluctuations and environmental stresses over long periods of time. These trees represent a valuable genetic reservoir and constitute a natural heritage of ecological, cultural, and historical significance. In order to protect and conserve these remarkable natural monuments, their official registration has been placed on the agenda of the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism Organization of Iran. Nevertheless, despite their protected status, many of these trees have gradually been exposed to a range of threats. In the present study, the impacts of various human pressures, environmental factors, and plant pests and diseases on registered long-lived plane and mulberry trees listed in the National Natural Heritage of Iran, located in Lenjan County of Isfahan Province, were examined. Considering the identified challenges, and in order to ensure the preservation and maintenance of these ancient trees, appropriate management strategies are essential. These include improving soil and root conditions, implementing targeted nutrition programs, conducting regular monitoring, controlling pests and diseases—particularly wood-boring insects, bark beetles, crown rot, and trunk canker—applying modern trunk repair methods, and enhancing public and institutional awareness through education.
