Abstract

The present trial was carried out in Hamadan Research Agriculture Station of Hamadan Province of Iran in 2002 to select and introduce the most adaptable and productive poplar clones. For this reason, 22 clones were divided into two groups: closed-crown with a planting distance of 3×3 and open-crown with a planting distance of 4×4 studied in the form of a complete randomized blocks design in three replications for six years. According to the results, the yield of closed-crown clones, including P. n.62/149, P. a.58/57, and P.n. 74/1 were 9.85, 6.83, and 6.77 m³/ha/y, respectively, and open-crown clones, including P. x. e. 154 and P. x. e. vernirubensis were 8.94 and 8.40 m³/ha/y, respectively. These clones were introduced as compatible poplar clones with high wood production. Clones of P.n. betulufolia 17/13 and P.n. 56/52 in closed-crown clones and P.d. 72/51 and P.d. missouriensis were introduced as the lowest adaptable and productive poplar clones in the region.
