Abstract

Biodiversity serves as a crucial element in maintaining ecosystem stability, playing a vital role in providing ecosystem services such as food production, climate regulation, water purification, pollination, and maintaining ecological balance. In Iran, one of the world's top 20 megadiverse countries, biodiversity hotspots are regions with high species richness and endemic species, facing severe threats due to habitat destruction, overexploitation, climate change, and invasive species. This article reviews the importance of biodiversity hotspots, conservation challenges, and novel strategies for managing these areas. Given the complexity of threats, protecting hotspots requires a combination of traditional approaches and modern technologies. Utilizing artificial intelligence and advanced tools like Geographic Information Systems (GIS), drones, and satellite sensors enables more precise monitoring and effective management of these regions. Integrating indigenous knowledge with scientific knowledge plays a significant role in reducing habitat destruction and enhancing ecosystem resilience. The article emphasizes the importance of in-situ and ex-situ conservation, highlighting the need for gene banks, habitat restoration, and supportive policies for sustainable biodiversity conservation. Ultimately, by presenting comprehensive conservation strategies and leveraging modern technologies, it is possible to prevent the extinction of valuable species and ensure essential ecosystem services for future generations.
