Abstract

Hypericopsis persica and Salicornia perspolitana belonging to Frankeniaceae and Chenopodiaceae, respectively, are two halophytic endemics in Fars province. These local endemics grow on high saline and wet soils near the margin of hypersaline lakes of Bakhtegan, Maharlu, and Tashk. Extent of Occurrence (EOO), Area of Occupancy (AOO), the number of mature individuals of populations, and the quality of habitat were measured to evaluate the risk of extinction and protect the two species. Our results show the species as endangered (EN). The habitat of these species is seriously threatened due to the construction of large dams on the rivers running to the lakes, salt mines, agriculture, pollution, grazing, and trampling by the vehicles of ecotourists.
